Sess is right on Targett

MATT TARGETT has seen first hand why Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon has long been tipped for the top.

Sessegnon enhanced his reputation with a 12th goal of the season in another fine display to help down promotion rivals Aston Villa.

On-loan Southampton defender Targett knows a thing or two about talented teens having seen Gareth Bale and Luke Shaw emerge from St Mary’s. And he sees the same promise in 17-year-old Sessegnon.

Grounded

Targett said: “Sess is going to have a great future in front of him.

“He’s a massive threat. To score 12 already in the Championship, for any midfielder that’s good.

“But he’s 17. He’s definitely right up there with the likes of Shaw and Bale. Sess is so down to earth, very grounded and he’s a top professional which sets him apart from the rest.”

Sessegnon and Floyd Ayite’s longrange strike extended in-form Fulham’s unbeaten run to 10 games.

Fulham are sitting in the play-offs but have an automatic spot in their sights.

Targett added: “Wolves are sitting very comfortably. I’d probably say they are out of sight.

“But that second spot is up for grabs and we’re going for that.”

Villa did not look like the side that had won their last seven games as they struggled without the injured Albert Adomah and Jack Grealish.

But boss Steve Bruce saw a bright spot in the debut of rookie Manchester United loanee Axel Tuanzebe and said: “He was excellent in his full debut for us. He’s going to be a good player.

“The beauty of him is that he can play well anywhere and when you’ve got that in your locker it sometimes helps.”
