MIND THE GAP

It’s easy to make mistakes in PLO. Overplaying gapped connecting hole cards is a common one. Missing cards can let higher hands sneak in and slap you in the face! Suppose you have Five-Six-Eight-Nine versus an opponent’s Six-Seven-Eight-Nine. You’re vulnerable. If it flops Six-Eight-Ten, your gap leaves you stuck on two pair to your opponent’s filled straight with only four outs to rescue the win.

UNHAPPY GAPPY

Another tricky scenario to beware of with gapped starting hands in PLO is where you flop the same nut straight as your opponent. Seems great on the flop, but if another card comes on the turn or river that lets your opponent play a hole card you’re missing, they could end up with a higher hand. Once again, you’d be stuck with the second-best hand and facing a difficult decision.
