Jack will keep us in the Premier

JOE BACKS BUTLAND TO SHRUG OFF ERROR

-

JACK BUTLAND has been told to focus on keeping Stoke up and forget about his howler.

Goalkeeper Butland, 24, gifted Leicester their equaliser when he fumbled Marc Albrighton’s cross into his own net, cancelling out Xherdan Shaqiri’s opener.

Butland also produced superb saves to deny Riyad Mahrez and Harry Maguire.

But the draw left Stoke second from bottom of the Premier League and a point from safety.

Team-mate Joe Allen believes Butland’s saves prove he has the mental toughness to bounce back from his costly mistake.

“It says a lot about his character,” said the Wales midfielder.

“Every player is going to make mistakes. The important thing is he didn’t let it affect him. He made a brilliant save to keep it at 1-1 and there is certainly no blame being placed on him from us.”

Stoke boss Paul Lambert said: “He will bounce back. He is very strong mentally and he is a very good guy.”

While Butland hopes to be on the plane to the World Cup with England this summer, Leicester captain Wes Morgan believes Maguire is a cert after claiming he’s the best English defender.

“I see the competition and he’s as good, LEICESTER (4-2-3-1): 7; Schmeich Simpson 6 (Iheanacho Morgan 62, 6), 6, Maguire 7, Chilwell James 6; Ndidi 7; MAHREZ 7, Albrighton 5 (Diabate 6, Gra 61, 6); Vardy 6. Subs: Dragovic, Silva, Jakupovic, Iborra, Fuchs. UP NEXT: Bournemouth League, (h), Premier Saturday. STOKE (4-3-3): Butland 7, Zouma 6; Bauer 7, Martins Indi 7 (Adam 74), Stafylidis 7; Cameron Allen 7, Ndiaye 7, 8; SHAQIRI 8, Diouf 6 64, 7), (Campbell Choupo-Moting 7 (Johnson Subs: Pieters, 84). Jese, Sobhi, Grant. UP NEXT: Southampton League, (a), Premier Saturday. Referee: Michael Oliver 7. YOUR TURN: Which Nigerian midfielder scored his first league goal for Leicester when they at beat Stoke 2-0 home last season? if not better, than the boys who might be in front of him,” said Morgan.

“I’m sure he will be a regular in the starting line-up for England and he’s going to be a big star.

“I see him every day in training and I know he can get to the top.”

Pleasure

Leicester manager Claude Puel said it was a “pleasure” having Mahrez on song after he made his first Premier League start since his collapsed deadline day move to Manchester City.

“All that is behind us,” said Puel. “He came back into the team with pleasure and is enjoying his football.”

Morgan added: “He looked more like himself. He’s settled back in as if he never went away, so it’s fantastic for us and it’s fantastic for him.”
