Mitrovic at Ful tilt for Russia

ALEKSANDAR MITROVIC has had a new lease of life since swapping Tyneside for the banks of the Thames.

Now he hopes it will lead to Russia for the World Cup.

Mitrovic, who joined Fulham on loan from Newcastle last month, scored one goal and made the other for Ryan Sessegnon as the Cottagers won their eighth straight home game.

“The first thing to concentrate on is trying to get promotion with Fulham, and help the team to that if I can,” he said.

“The second thing is the World Cup in the summer with Serbia – but that can be left until then.”

He believes that Fulham boss and fellow Serb Slavisa Jokanovic can help him get to Russia.

“He was a big player in Serbia and now one of the best Serbian coaches,” Mitrovic said.

“It was one of the big reasons why I came here, and he has had Fulham playing in a good style, one that every striker would like. I know I have got more league goals here in four days than I did until January at Newcastle but I didn’t play very much there.

“And often it was as a substitute for 10 or 15 minutes and I didn’t really have the chance to score more goals.

“But here I had a really warm welcome from the lads and the staff right from the beginning.”

It was only a second defeat in 20 league games for Championship leaders Wolves. But they have gone three games without a win for the first time this season.

“As much as we have been riding the highs, from this game we can learn things about ourselves and use that to bounce back as quick as possible,” said defender Barry Douglas.

“We’re not getting ahead of ourselves this season, there are still 12 cup finals left. But we need to keep positive and keep calm, keep doing what we have been doing and I’m sure we will be fine.”
