You Bera shape up

- By TIM NASH

SAIDO BERAHINO has been told he’s not fit enough to play for Stoke.

Potters boss Paul Lambert says Berahino, 24, must now do extra sessions.

Lambert said: “He’s not up to my level of fitness. He needs more fitness to play the way I want him to play.

“I don’t think he’s up to the levels he should be.”

The former West Brom striker (above) failed to make the squad for last week’s 1-1 draw at Leicester.

He claimed on Twitter he had been hounded by

reporters over a tabloid story about his private life.

Berahino hasn’t scored in 733 days and his place on the bench went to 18-year-old debutant Tyrese Campbell at the King Power with Peter Crouch injured.

Lambert added: “He’s a fit lad but there has got to be more to it and that’s what he’s got to work on.

“I have told him that, so he knows the situation and what I’m explaining. He’s been really good with me, working away at it.

“Once he does that, he will be fine. But it has to come from him as well.

“In the situation we’re in, we need everybody to put their shoulder to the wheel and be able to get around. That’s important.”

Lambert is the third successive manager Berahino has played under who has criticised his fitness, after Tony Pulis at West Brom and Mark Hughes at Stoke.
