GIRLS should be taught how and when to get pregnant in new sex education classes, experts claim.

“Poor lifestyle choices” like boozing or being overweight can cut the chances of conceiving, say Fertility Education Initiative.

And they want the Government to warn women that having a baby may also be difficult over the age of 35.

Leading doctors, fertility experts and campaigners say the rising age of women having children has become a cause of concern.

They claim the pain of involuntary childlessness should not be underestimated.

NHS figures show that one in seven couples struggles when trying to start a family. The average age for a woman to have a child is now 30, up from 26 in 1976. About a fifth even reach 45 without having a baby.

But medical experts believe that the optimum age for childbearing is between 20 and 35.

Meanwhile, the teenage pregnancy rate has dropped to a record low.

It fell to 21 in 1,000 in 2015, half the rate in the 1990s before a drive involving schools, youth services and sexual health clinics.

Schoolchildren will receive compulsory sex and relationship classes from next year and the Government is running a public consultation on what these should contain.

The FEI wants the lessons to cover the nature of fertility from puberty to the menopause.
