THAT’S JUST NOT FAYRE!

Single mums’ battle over meal deal

ANGRY single mums have slammed a pub chain for offering free meals on Mother’s Day – but only if they bring a partner.

Brewers Fayre emailed Bonus Club customers offering a “Mums Eat Free” deal on March 11 if they bought another main meal for the other parent.

The deal was “open to all twoparent families of either mixed or same sex regardless of gender”.

But single mums and widows complained they were being excluded from benefitting and sparked outrage on social media.

Mum-of-two Kathryn Fox, a regular at Brewers Fayre, blasted: “So all us single mums doing it by ourselves don’t deserve a treat?”

The 46-year-old business manager added: “They’re happy to take my hard-earned single mum’s cash on a regular basis without me needing a partner, so why do I need one now on Mother’s Day of all days?” Caroline Slater, 47, from Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, added: “I thought great, a place where my daughter is happy to go, and a free meal to boot. Then I read the small print.”

However, Brewers Fayre’s Facebook page later replied to one of the posts saying they would honour the free mums’ meal as long as a second adult meal was bought for somebody – but clarified it did not have to be a parent as in the original wording.

It read: “Please accept our sincere apologies for the way that this has been worded, we can assure you that it was not our intention to exclude anyone.”

The company added last night: “We realise this has missed the mark for some customers. We have listened to the feedback.”
