END IS NIGH FOR ARSENE

Punters call time on Wenger

-

FOR over a month we’ve had a market on whether Arsene Wenger will still be Arsenal manager on the opening day of next season.

It’s fair to say we couldn’t decide and began at 5-6 both Yes and No.

Now, after a dreadful week for the club, punters have had their say through their pockets and we now bet: Yes 7-4; No 2-5.

Thierry Henry appeared to throw his hat into the ring to be the next Arsenal manager in an interview on Sky Sports. The TV pundit – and assistant to Roberto Martinez with the Belgium national side – has been backed from 14s into 8-1 with BetVictor to return to the Gunners as boss.

BetVictor’s market for the next Arsenal manager, irrespective of timescale: Joachim Low 4-1 Carlo Ancellotti 5-1 Thierry Henry 8-1 Mikel Arteta 10-1 Brendan Rodgers 10-1

The market for the next Premier League manager to leave his post is also fascinating. Wenger is 4-1 and Chelsea boss Antonio Conte 8-1. Alan Pardew at West Brom is odds-on at 4-5 but it wouldn’t be a shock if Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton had a new boss for the opening day of 2018-19.

Talking of Everton and a good result today might be a postponement of their trip to Burnley, such is their dismal recent away form. The last time the Clarets did the double over Everton was in the 1959-60 season and they won the league that season.

Sean Dyche’s team have not won in their last 11 league games but Everton have won just one of their last 22 league matches away from Goodison and that was a lucky 1-0 win at Newcastle in December.

Burnley are 6-4 to win in what is sure to be a chilly east Lancashire. The draw is 21-10 and Everton 23-10. Many will tune in to the early kick-off thinking Everton can’t play as badly as they did at Watford last week – believe me, we can. I’m not the only Evertonian frustrated by Big Sam’s – you have to call him that, it would appear – tactics and team selection.

Liverpool have scored in their last 21 home games against Newcastle and the visitors have had four red cards in their last four visits to Anfield. The recommendation is for a Liverpool win and over 3.5 goals at 5-4.

Toon boss Rafa Benitez has been back to his former club twice previously and on both occasions the game finished 2-2. A repeat tonight is 25-1. Liverpool to win and both teams to score ............. 5-4 Go to BetVictor.com
