Takeaway fans fall for prank over hol contest
ANT and Dec fell for a prank that made it look like a couple cheated to win a holiday.
The Geordie TV hosts scored their biggest ratings for 12 years at the weekend with the 100th episode of Saturday Night Takeaway.
It pulled in an average audience of 7.8million viewers with a peak of 8.9m.
But co-presenter Scarlett Moffatt joined a scripted prank over the holiday contest.
The former Gogglebox star surprised Mark and Susan Howell live on air in a Nottingham pub.
She told them to get home as fast as possible to land the trip to ® Florida. On arrival they discovered their house had been turned into an obstacle course by TV crews and they had to race against the clock to find four tickets.
They found three of them quite easily. But as time was running out while they tried to retrieve the final one in a paddling pool of gunge, viewers saw Scarlett take a ticket, which had already been found, and slip it back into the slime.
She then pulled it back out and pretended it was the fourth ticket and the couple then celebrated their big win.
But many fans were quick to seize on the moment and immediately fired off angry comments on social media.
One said: “Well that was such a fake win”.
Another added: “Scarlett is such an obvious cheat – do you think we are silly?”
And a fan added: “Did anyone else notice Scarlett pretending to find the fourth ticket in that pool?”
Last night Scarlett tweeted: “Susan and Mark you deserve the world, see you in Florida you lovely people!!”
And some viewers have also claimed that Scarlett’s “screechy” voice was a turn-off.
Twitter comments included: “I really can’t take anymore of her screeching voice” and “Why is that screeching Scarlett Moffatt on this show?”.
But a show source said: “Scarlett was taking part in the game with the couple to help them win as many tickets as possible.”
