Pep stunned by City slickers

- by JEREMY CROSS

PEP GUARDIOLA admits even he is shocked at how good his Manchester City side have become.

Guardiola (right) saw his men take another big step towards the title with victory over Chelsea.

A Bernardo Silva goal put them 18 points clear and they need just four more wins from their last nine games to seal the crown.

City are on course to become the first side to Turn to Page 46

smash the 100-point barrier while breaking Manchester United’s record winning margin of 18 points.

Asked if he had believed it was possible, the Spaniard said: “No way. No way, no. Who could believe it?

“I think if you ask the players, the players neither. In terms of not just the results but the way we played – and this was another demonstration.

“That is what pleases me the most. To have the distance, 25 points to Chelsea, 33 to Arsenal, 20 to Tottenham. It is a lot.

“What really matters most is to be champions. I never spoke with the players about the records.

“We are going to play for the records. But records are always a consequence of what you have done, but they are not the main thing.”

Guardiola said beating Chelsea with such ease was a real statement and that he could almost touch the Premier League trophy.

He added: “We need four victories to be champions, it is in our hands and if our behaviour is like this we will be champions.

“Against a strong team like Chelsea, who are still the champions, and beat them in the way we did – that is why it is so good.

“Our performance today was so good in terms of control and attacking at the right moment. Everybody was good.” Report: see pullout
