Simpson calls for answers

- By STEVE MADELEY

® LEICESTER star Danny Simpson wants reassurances from Claude Puel over his recent axing.

The Foxes’ right-back will ask for a meeting with boss Puel this week to find out why he failed to make the subs’ bench in Saturday’s draw with Bournemouth.

Simpson was fit and available to face the Cherries but was left out in favour of Ghana defender Daniel Amartey.

The 31-year-old was understood to be calm but surprised about the decision, which left him watching Riyad Mahrez’s dramatic late equaliser from the stands after a Josh King penalty had given the visitors the lead.

Chance

Puel claimed after the game that he simply wanted to give Amartey a chance to impress, but did not explain Simpson’s absence from the squad.

The former Newcastle and QPR player will be keen to get assurances about his future as he enters the final year of his Foxes contract this summer.

Simpson had started three of Leicester’s four Premier League games since returning from a hamstring injury in January.

And he was a first-team regular for Leicester as they won the Premier League in 2015-16.

He also remained the No.1 right-back last season when they reached the Champions League quarter-finals before bowing out to Atlético Madrid 2-1 on aggregate.
