Wenger back to basics
ARSENE WENGER claims his Arsenal flops have forgotten how good they really are.
The Gunners have just lost four games in a row for the first time since 2002 and their confidence is at rock bottom ahead of tonight’s Europa League clash with AC Milan.
But under-pressure Wenger has told them to go back to basics against the in-form Italians instead of worrying about another morale-sapping defeat.
“The players are a bit affected by what happens because they want to win,” said Wenger ahead of the
first leg of their last-16 clash.
“In life, you forget quickly how good you are.
“When you have a bad week, players change their mind about their own quality.
“We have not to forget we are good football players but as well to fix reachable targets.
“Be practical, pragmatic – focus on what you can do better. Focus on defending better, playing quicker and doing more things together.”
Arsenal are without cup-tied Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and injured trio Alexandre Lacazette, Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal at the San Siro.
They face a fearsome Milan side who are unbeaten in 13 with six clean sheets in a row.
Skipper Laurent Koscielny admits his side are locked in a “negative spiral” and said: “It’s difficult to go out of this. We need to be together. That’s the most important.”
