ROBY IS A DIAMOND

Saints skipper sparkles Brough is so bootiful for Giants

JAMES ROBY sets the bar so high every week that his exploits are often taken for granted.

But St Helens were left to hail his leadership here as they slowly but surely snuffed out Warrington.

The skipper darted over for his 99th Saints try in the second half to give them an eight-point lead.

The man who never takes a backward step then stood up to be counted as Wolves hit back.

Harvey Livett cut their lead to two points but Mark Percival’s second and third tries put them back in control.

The result extends Saints’ winning run at the top to five games.

It also leaves Warrington having lost four of their six games.

On this showing that seems a false story and weaker sides than Saints would have found it more difficult.

The visitors got off to an early lead with a try from centre Percival, a man who seems hell-bent on proving a point.

England coach Wayne Bennett repeatedly left him out during the World Cup in favour of using forward John Bateman.

It was a ploy that wasn’t successful and Percival seems keen to remind Bennett of how good he can be.

He barged past two players for his first and his two second-half efforts took his tally to seven this season. Warrington took their time to get on the scoreboard but they pulled level with a Toby King try, from a Tyrone Roberts kick.

Only a Danny Richardson penalty split the sides at the break but Saints then came out with more firepower.

An awful mistake by Roberts straight from Saints’ kick-off allowed Roby to race over.

Richardson, a mature 21-year-old, celebrated his England Knights call-up with his third goal.

Warrington refused to be shaken off and Roberts set up their second try out wide for Livett.

But Percival slapped them back into place with his further two tries, before Richardson grabbed another late on.
