But yesterday he accused 48-year-old Livia of making up the claims to hide their fling between 2015 and 2016 when she and Colin were separated.
Heart-throb Firth, 57, has melted women’s hearts playing the brooding Mr Darcy in Pride And Prejudice.
Admitting to the affair, Livia – who wed The King’s Speech actor in 1997 – claimed Brancaccia stalked her once the romance had come to an end.
A spokesman for the Hollywood couple, issued a statement saying they had never spoken of it “for obvious reasons”.
The statement added: “A few years ago Colin and Livia made the decision to separate.
“During that time Livia briefly became involved with former friend Mr Brancaccia. The Firths have since reunited.
“Subsequently, Mr Brancaccia carried out a campaign of harassment over several months, much of which is documented.
Regret
“As a consequence of his stalking, threats and refusal to desist, the legal complaint was lodged with the Italian authorities.” Details of the affair first appeared in Italian publication La Repubblica. The spokesman added it was “regretful” the details were in the public domain. Brancaccia denied the stalking allegations, adding: “We were romantically involved, she wanted to leave Colin for me. “I wrote an email to Colin about my relationship with Livia, which I now regret sending, and she filed a complaint against me for stalking.” He added his alleged stalking amounted to two WhatsApp messages. Colin and Livia have two children – Luca, 16, and Matteo, 14.
