Mayor’s war on drunken louts
BOOZY holidays in Ayia Napa could be a thing of the past as island officials ban “inappropriate behaviour”.
The mayor of the popular resort in Cyprus has launched a war against the “low quality youth” market.
And he is demanding that police and tour operators crack down on loutish actions by stag parties and the like. Yiannis Karousos warned: “We shall not allow a small number of our visitors to turn away the remaining 90% with their negative actions and behaviours.
“We would therefore like to make it public that such inappropriate behaviour from the low quality youth market and their related business partners (tour operators, nightlife event organisers) are not welcome.”
He said a new CCTV system will be installed across the town to prevent and punish “illegal behaviour”.
And he warned other measures might be needed to rid a style of tourism “not in line with our future strategy and our vision”.
