AUTO TUNES IN A BUBBLE

- By RUTH McKEE

ARGUMENTS about what music or radio station to listen to on long car journeys could soon be a thing of the past.

A new stereo system creates individual “audio bubbles” around each occupant of a vehicle – all without headphones.

It means that, while the driver might be listening to football commentary on the radio, a passenger can enjoy some music.

Parents could be spared having to listen to audio books on an endless loop to keep the young children in the back entertained while teenagers would not need to endure the dubious music tastes of other family members.

The system being developed by car giant Ford can also allow a passenger to sit in blissful silence, away from the noise of the engine, radio and even fellow occupants.

The technology uses speakers around each seat to produce each person’s choice in sound.
