SCOTT RUES BAD BREAK

He failed to make weight after injury

- By DECLAN TAYLOR

SCOTT QUIGG is expecting a battle at passport control after his war with Oscar Valdez.

The 29-year-old lost a unanimous decision against the brilliant WBO featherweight champion, suffering a broken nose and a cut above his left eye in the process.

Valdez fared no better, being taken straight to hospital with a broken jaw.

Quigg plans to fly home to Bury this week after his 10-week camp in Los Angeles but reckons they might not let him back in the country due to the state of his face.

He said: “I might have a problem because I look like the Elephant Man now.

“They might not let me on the plane because I look nothing like my passport at the moment.

“But I enjoyed fighting here and I hope the American fans liked it and want to see me back here again.

“I’d love to fight here again. I want to be in big fights and test how good I am.”

The fight nearly fell through after Quigg came in at 2.8lb over the featherweight limit at Friday’s weigh-in.

It was not until Saturday morning ® that the two sides agreed on a deal for the fight to go ahead.

Quigg defended himself after revealing a broken foot was the reason he failed to make the weight.

He said: “To anyone who says the weight affected the fight, that’s b ****** s

“I don’t cut corners, I could have pulled out and there would have been no fight.

“People have been giving me stick about what happened with the weight but I don’t take any notice of that.

“I couldn’t give a c**p to be honest. I broke my foot in training. The first six weeks couldn’t have gone any better, everything was bang on. “But then I was just skipping and all of a sudden my foot just went and I heard a crack. “It was my right foot on the third metatarsal so I couldn’t put any pressure on it. For four days I couldn’t do anything. “I could only do certain stuff in the gym and I didn’t spar for the last three weeks. “But pulling out was never in my mind and no excuses, I don’t think any of that made a difference to the result anyway.”
