AGUERO NO-GO AFTER INJURY BLOW

PREMIER LEAGUE City strike ace is out for two weeks

- By JEREMY CROSS

SERGIO AGUERO will miss tonight’s clash at Stoke after suffering a knee injury in training.

Manchester City’s 30-goal top scorer expects to be out for up to two weeks.

“During yesterday’s training I had a discomfort on my left knee,” he said.

“The club’s doctors told me I will be back with the team in approximately two weeks. Now it’s time for a full recovery.”

After tonight’s game City are not back in action again until March 31 against Everton.

But he is set to miss Argentina’s friendly against Italy – due to be played at City’s Etihad Stadium – on March 23, and the match against Spain four days later.

Boss Pep Guardiola admits that he won’t build a dynasty at City like Sir Alex Ferguson did ® with Manchester United. Fergie spent 27 years as United boss, winning 38 trophies to turn them into one of the biggest and most successful clubs in the world.

Etihad bosses want Guardiola to do something similar with City.

But Guardiola admits he might not have the willpower to hang around at City long enough, even though he said at the weekend he could have 10 more years left in him as a manager.

Energy

“To do that (what Fergie did), in the past you have to spend 10 to 15 years in one club,” he said.

“When Sir Alex rebuilt a club he had six to seven years with the same people and then had to do it again.

“I think we could do that. That can happen, but you have to stay 10 to 15 years and I don’t know if I have the energy to do that.”

Guardiola will be offered a new contract in the summer with his City side still on course for a Treble this season.

They are 13 points clear at the top of the table and already have the League Cup in the trophy cabinet,

It’s a different tale from last season, when the Spaniard failed to win any silverware in his first campaign in English football.

Guardiola admits the support he got from his City bosses, including chairman Khaldoon Al-Mubarak, during the tough times means a lot to him.

“The relationship is good, especially with Khaldoon,” he said ahead of tonight’s trip to Stoke.

“In the bad moments I saw how the club reacted and supported me and when I wanted to talk about plans for the future they were there. I will not forget that.”
