Troy gloom
ARSENE WENGER last night revelled in Arsenal ramming Troy Deeney’s taunts back down his throat.
The Watford skipper accused the Gunners of not having the ‘cojones’ for a fight after the Hornets beat them 2-1 at Vicarage Road in October.
Wenger said Deeney’s comments had fired up his men, and also took delight in Deeney (below) missing a penalty.
It was Petr Cech’s first penalty save for Arsenal in 16 attempts as he became the first goalkeeper to keep 200 clean sheets in the Premier League.
“He had to wait a while to save a penalty first of all – it’s quite fortunate that it’s against Deeney,” said Wenger with a smile.
On Deeney’s cojones comment, Wenger added: “You cannot be a footballer without pride.
“All these things come into it, for how much I don’t know – but of course it plays a part.”
Prior to beating AC Milan in the Europa League last week, Arsenal had lost four in a row and Wenger added: “We had a nightmare week. We have work to do but overall we are in a good way.”
Watford boss Javi Gracia said: “I can’t believe today we didn’t score a goal with all the chances we created.”
