Yob, 17, caged for acid horrors
A TEENAGER has been jailed for 10-and-a-half years for acid attacks on moped riders.
Derryck John,17, targeted six riders in a bid to steal their vehicles in less than 90 minutes.
The teenager sprayed his victims in the face, leaving one man with a 30% loss of sight in one eye.
John, of Croydon, south London, appeared at Wood Green Crown Court via video link.
Judge Noel Lucas told him: “These were grave crimes. You attacked members of the public with what appears to have been an acid at the strongest end of the scale of acids.”
He described the “life-changing” impact the incident has had on John’s victims.
The judge also spoke about the prevalence of acid attacks in London.
He said: “I can state from my own knowledge of the offences arriving at this Crown Court that such offences have risen sharply in the last 12 months.
“This is the second major corrosive fluid case I have had to deal with in the past three months.”
Last month, John pleaded guilty to six counts of throwing a corrosive liquid, robbery and attempted robbery. A MAN dressed as an ice cream cone got so drunk in Tewkesbury, Glos, on Saturday police set up a Twitter hashtag in his honour.
