ROMANCE comes to the Cobbles for Audrey Roberts and a mystery man.

But Sue Nicholls, 74, who has played the iconic hairdresser since 1979, says it won’t be raunchy.

She said: “I have a flirt coming up. I have a bit of an accident – nothing huge, but afterwards this gentleman arrives and it’s all a bit of a misunderstanding.

“It’s kind of sweet more than heavy panting and all of that stuff.”

Sue admitted Audrey was a bit of a floozy in her younger days, saying: “Back in the day she was a man-eater! I watch some of the classic Corrie episodes when I first arrived and she was rather flirty.

“Anyone bought you a G&T and you were away!

“I wondered whether I was like that in real life but you do change as you get older. Then she met the lovely Alf of course.”

Sue now has her eye on the tattoo parlour set to open on the new Victoria Street set, which debuts on screen in April.

“I’d like a nice hunky tattooist in there,” she laughed. “She needs a fella who is tough, very attractive and tells her what he wants.” Sue also revealed she likes that Audrey proves you don’t really need a man to be happy: “I’m happy on my own as Audrey.

“I love my husband but it would be lovely to go home, shut the door and have a glass of rosé wine and put the telly on to watch something I want.

“Not every woman needs a man to be happy.”

On being one of the longest-serving cast members, she revealed: “I’m still thrilled to be there.

“I don’t ever feel like I’ve done enough. I want to work. If they ever got rid of me I would be sad but I would still come in every day. I love the feeling of being part of this show.”
