Jose fury at his United slackers
JOSE MOURINHO fears slackers Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez are killing his Manchester United side.
Mourinho (right) is furious following United’s shock Champions League exit to Sevilla at Old Trafford.
The United boss has taken most of the blame for the KO, with critics questioning his team selection and tactics.
But Starsport can reveal Mourinho reckons Pogba and Sanchez must shoulder the majority of the blame for United’s humiliating loss.
Sanchez, who is earning £500,000 a week, has flopped since joining from
Arsenal in January and has scored one goal in 10 appearances.
The Chilean has given the ball away more than any other United player, while £90m Pogba has been struggling for both form and fitness.
Sanchez was woeful against Sevilla, while Pogba fared no better after being sent on as a 60th-minute substitute.
Mourinho reckons the disappointing duo need to emulate the work ethic and attitude of team-mates such as Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku. A source close to the United chief told
Starsport: “When Mourinho wins, he gets negative publicity. When he loses, he gets negative publicity.
“United with Sir Alex Ferguson and top teams won two Champions Leagues and were knocked out more than 20 times.
“Ferguson wins the Champions League twice and he is king. Jose wins it twice and he is s**t.
“So what can people expect with a team like this? And what can a manager do when Pogba and Alexis kill the team?
“If they perform like Matic and Lukaku, certainly the team would be much better.”
The revelation will cast fresh doubts over the long-term future of Pogba, who has found himself axed from Mourinho’s starting line-up in recent weeks.
Former United midfielder Paul Ince blasted Pogba for his display against Sevilla, saying: “I’d describe his performance as ‘sulky’. He came on and looked totally disinterested.”
Ince, a columnist for Paddy Power, also had some harsh word for Sanchez.
He added: “Sanchez keeps trying to do things, and make things happen, but the more he does, the worse the team gets.
“He doesn’t suit how Jose Mourinho plays football.”
Mourinho is also on a collision course with Old Trafford bosses over his summer spending plans.
He reckons the club have not splashed out enough compared to Manchester City, although United chiefs believe Mourinho has had enough financial backing to build a side capable of competing with the best.
Since taking charge at Old Trafford in 2016 Mourinho has shelled out more than £300m on some of the biggest names in football.
The growing tension between Mourinho and senior United figures will alert Paris St-Germain, who are still keen to lure the Portuguese boss to France.
