POPPI DAD FURY
Charges ruled out over tragedy
POPPI Worthington’s mum was devastated last night after learning her ex will not be investigated over her death.
Prosecutors announced there was no new evidence to charge Paul Worthington.
Poppi’s mum, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was said to be “extremely disappointed”.
Her lawyer Fiona McGhie said: “The past five years have been a complete nightmare for her.
“Although she is now closer to the devastating truth, it is likely that she may never get full closure on exactly what happened that night.’’
Coroner David Roberts said the 13-month-old suffocated when she fell asleep next to her dad Paul in his double bed after he had abused her.
Cumbria MP John Woodcock said the decision was a “fresh reminder of the terrible failings in the police investigation that have made a criminal conviction so difficult.” He wants a public inquiry into Cumbria Police’s handling of the case.
Paul Worthington said “nothing had changed” for him despite the decision not to charge him.
He was forced to move home following death threats.
POPPI Worthington was robbed of her childhood and her chance at life. She deserves justice.
Coroner David Roberts has already said the 13-month-old was sexually assaulted by her father Paul shortly before her death in December 2012 from asphyxia.
So how can the CPS possibly say there is not enough evidence to prosecute?
Poppi’s devastated mother has said she is “extremely disappointed” by the decision. And she has every right to be. The CPS has got a very important job to do but they cannot ignore the national outrage surrounding their decision. We need answers. Because at the moment it looks like a huge miscarriage of justice.
