IT’S ROVER AND ROUT

No rest no bother for Tim

-

TIM SHEENS should demand tough, short turnarounds every week if this is the result.

Rovers managed only one proper training session following last weekend’s trip to Catalans.

But any concerns about being ready physically were brushed aside in an impressive display last night.

Their mental toughness was tested when Huddersfield raced into an early lead with Oliver Roberts’ try.

But they came back firing with three unanswered first-half tries to take a grip on the game.

Then Rob Mulhern’s brilliant run in the second half and three further tries sealed their second win of the year.

The victory lifts Hull KR into eighth, above Huddersfield and Warrington and level on points with Hull and Widnes. Yet the Giants, who have now lost four of their six matches, looked to have the edge when Roberts gave them the lead.

But their defence was exposed badly twice in two minutes, allowing Rovers to grab the lead.

Nothing looked to be on when centre Andrew Heffernan took a pass from stand-off Danny McGuire.

But the Aussie did superbly to sidestep Sam Wood and Jordan Rankin to grab his first try in Super League.

He then turned provider, his pace taking him past Danny Brough before laying the ball off to Adam Quinlan to finish off.

Ryan Shaw converted both and then kicked a penalty as they started to take control.

A mistake by England winger Jermaine McGillvary paved the way for Rovers’ third try late in the first half.

His knock-on gave Rovers possession in the Giants half and Quinlan made them pay with a grubber kick to put Shaw over.

Shaw kicked his fourth goal for a 20-6 half-time lead and they continued to be the better side in the second half.

Prop forward Mulhern swatted off both Brough and McGillvary in a great 80-metre break before putting James Greenwood over.

Heffernan cut the Giants to shreds again with another break to gift Shaw his second try, with a McGuire try rounding off the rout.
