Guilar’s guile lands monster
BRENDAN GUILAR landed the biggest pike of the season at 44lb 12oz using a herring under a drifter float.
Fishing the predator trial on Raventhsorpe Reservoir, Northants, Brendan beat the monster on 40lb wire to size 4 treble hooks.
The pike fell just 2lb 1oz short of the British record and obliterated Brendan’s personal best of 26lb 8oz. ¬ÊDaniel Teuma enjoyed a double delight when he banked a brace of monster golden orfe at Surrey day-ticket water, Newdigate Farm.
The 40-year-old Epsom angler used groundbait feeder and red maggot hookbait to bag the fish of 7lb 10oz and 7lb 8oz.
¬ The country’s zander have been on the feed in the final days of the season with Midlands rivers the pick of the venues.
On the Severn, Lewis Bastin grabbed his first bite of the day after dark, connecting with a 16lb 2oz zed. A roach deadbait proved the killer tactic.
And on the River Trent, Craig Woodhouse bagged a brace of zander scaling 14lb 10oz and 14lb, after he presented a roach deadbait in a deep channel.
¬ Three anglers have enjoyed a fishing holiday from heaven after bagging 6,510lb of catfish.
Father and son Simon and Benjamin Regan, together with their pal Jeff Sutcliffe, hauled in 64 moggies.
Five of them came in at over 150lb and they also cashed in with two bonus carp to 46lb.
