Extra Nile!

GET ready to Freak Out to Kill Bill – the all-star double LP.

That’s how hitmaker Chic’s Nile Rodgers describes his new “cinematic” album. Three years in the making, the disco legend’s opus is so full of stars it will now come in two parts. Before his Teenage Cancer Trust show in London, Nile told me: “I look at albums as films and this album to me feels like a movie in two parts. The wacky comparison I make is it’s like the film Kill Bill where they had parts 1 and 2; they stand on their own but you don’t get the full story until you see the second one where she’s gotta Kill Bill.

“There’s a lot of wonderful people on there and I have a lot to say but it’s a lot to consume and not fair to the listener.”

Nile began the project with such legendary stars as Sir Elton John, Debbie Harry and Lady Gaga.

More recently he’s been at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios with next generation celebs including Jorja Smith, Zak Abel, JP Cooper and Anderson Paak.

Nile explained: “The Abbey Road sessions may be the most productive period of my life ever, starting with Anderson and Bruno Mars, then Disclosure, Craig David, Jorja, it’s outrageous. I ran into Stormzy by accident this week and it would be cool to do something with him.”

Nile, 65, wowed the Royal Albert Hall for Roger Daltrey’s Teenage Cancer Trust concert series this week.

And Nile said: “It’s weird, I’ve performed with The Who’s John Entwistle but never Roger.

“He’s going to come to the States to play for me where we are honouring him at my We Are Family Foundation.”

But this summer will be all about a brand new Chic record – the first in 25 years.

Nile added: “There will be a bunch of announcements about what is going on in my career in the next few weeks.

“To have an experimental, eclectic life is amazing to me. I want people to enjoy what I’m making.”
