Cadbury’s, Nestlé and Thorntons have made some of their products smaller but have kept the same cost, a Brand View study found.
Thorntons and Cadbury’s, both owned by foreign firms, said “resizing” allows them to deliver the same quality for the same price.
Nestlé said they try to drop prices to reflect weight reductions “where possible” but the final decision on price was with retailers. Andrew Brow, from Post Office Travel Money, said: “Check prices for key items such as meals, drinks and sightseeing before booking because there are big variations.
“Accommodation will make a big difference too as we found that the cost of staying over in a city can vary by hundreds of pounds.”
Amsterdam is the most expensive short-break destination at £535.
Oslo is the next most pricey city with a weekend trip around £510. Reykjavik, Copenhagen and Venice are also costly.
But the pound has risen against several European currencies so even the more expensive cities are cheaper than a year ago.
The news came as Ryanair announced yesterday it is to begin flights to Ukraine, starting at around £20. Revellers are expected to flock to cities such as Kiev and Lviv, where pints cost just 49p.
