Hammers: We Mous do better

- By PAUL BROWN

WEST HAM will consider a move for £35m-rated Porto striker Moussa Marega, if they stay up.

Hammers chairman David Sullivan is planning a big summer spend with manager David Moyes scouting potential signings.

But any move for versatile Mali forward Marega, who has scored 21 goals in 35 games for Porto this season, depends on the club not being relegated.

There is an admission at West Ham that the club have failed badly in recent transfer windows, prompting a major review of recruitment and a determination to increase spending.

Sullivan has hired a top headhunting company to identify candidates for the role of director of football ® and intends to take a back seat on transfers.

But the club are watching potential targets and have had Marega (inset), who has also been linked with Everton and Swansea, on their radar since the summer. The 26-year-old primarily plays as a support striker but can operate at centre-forward and either wing. He featured against Liverpool in the Champions League last month before missing the return leg of their last-16 clash with a hamstring injury.

Sullivan told fans this week he is giving himself five or six years to turn things around at the club or he will step aside, and that he is open to bringing a supporter or ex-player on to the board.
