Chris refuses to get in a fix

CHRISTIAN WALTON insists Wigan are happy to play catch-up in the promotion race.

Paul Cook’s side are making up for lost time in League One thanks to their FA Cup heroics.

Wigan stunned Manchester City and also dumped out West Ham before their giant-killing journey was ended by Southampton at the quarter-final stage. And ® Walton, the goalkeeper on loan from Brighton, claims the Latics will take the fixture backlog in their stride as they seek an instant return to the second tier.

Walton, 22, said: “We can only take great heart and confidence from the way we performed so well against those Premier League teams.

“We enjoyed the ride but we are focused on winning promotion. That’s the most important thing for us now and the cup run has helped us in that aim.”

With leaders Blackburn not in action, a third straight win at rock-bottom Bury could send Wigan top again.

The Latics will be strong favourites against their Lancashire rivals and Walton added: “We’re determined to push on and finish the job.” WYCOMBE defender Dan Scarr (ankle) could return, but Michael Harriman, who has a broken leg, Anthony Stewart and Sam Saunders remain absent.

Port Vale are still without Tom Pope (hernia surgery). Kjell Knops and Adam Yates are out for the rest of the season and Antony Kay (hernia) is a major doubt. TOMORROW – Chesterfield will welcome back Louis Reed (ban), while Louis Dodds is hoping for a start.

Notts County will be without Ben Hall, as he is away on international duty with Northern Ireland Under-21s, so Shaun Brisley is likely to come into contention.
