RIVALS FANCY SHOT AT AJ
Aussie star knocking on the champ’s door
LUCAS BROWNE reckons facing Dillian Whyte will be a walk in the park compared to his job as a doorman in Australia.
The Aussie heavyweight was once shot at while working security at a Sydney nightclub.
So dealing with the pressure of facing Whyte at the O2 in London tonight will not worry him.
He said: “I did security for 13 years, so I know how to deal with pressure.
“I’ve been shot at and had knives and bottles thrown at me. To be in a ring with a referee is no problem.
“It’s just a fight but I won’t get bottled from behind by someone’s mate, like when I was working security.
“The worst was when I was shot at. We were evicting someone from a venue, the gun fell out, the guy grabbed the gun and started shooting into a crowd of people.
“I was nimble on my feet, so I took a step back, but one of my boys got shot in the back of the leg.
“Knives, bottles, chairs – it’s never one on one doing that job.
“Boxing is a walk in the park compared to that. It’s a controlled environment.
“I just do my job. There is just me and him in the ring with a referee and I get paid for this.”
There is a lot on the line tonight, even if there are no belts of real note up for grabs when the two contenders collide.
Should a deal for IBF and WBA champion Anthony Joshua to face WBC title holder Deontay Wilder not materialise, then the winner of tonight’s clash could get a shot at either of them.
And British basher Whyte is eyeing up a rematch with old foe Joshua, who knocked him out in 2015.
Whyte has a win over the London 2012 Olympic gold medallist from their amateur days and wants a decider.
He said: “If I win this fight, Joshua could be next. That would be ideal. I would jump at the chance to fight him again, I’m sure he would too.
“We just bring something out of each other which is pure rage, violence and aggression.”
