Offers set to flood in for Joshua

- FRANK WARREN Interview by CHRIS McKENNA

ANTHONY JOSHUA’S signature is up for grabs and every promoter in world boxing will be chasing him.

The WBA and IBF heavyweight champion is saying he is happy with Matchroom and he is likely to stay with them beyond their current deal, which, apparently, expires this year.

But it would shock me if he is not listening to other offers that will surely come from promoters around the world.

There will be lots of numbers thrown around but any deal would be based on his earning potential rather than what he will definitely make.

I certainly don’t see anyone offering the mammoth money up front that has been mentioned because in boxing there is always the risk of losing.

Joshua may be the money man in the sport now but if he loses, then his value will soon drop – just like anyone in the game.

At the moment there are only two meaningful fights for the London 2012 Olympic gold medallist.

They are against WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and the former champion – and real king of the division – Tyson Fury.

But to be fair to Joshua, he is the only meaningful opponent for those two as well. Fury (right) should soon be ready to return and will be in high demand with promoters.

These are certainly exciting times for the heavyweight division and the next few years should be fun.

This week we had the disappointment of having to rearrange WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders against Martin Murray for June 23.

Saunders injured his hand in training and reluctantly we had to move the date from April 14, which is disappointing for both the fans and the fighters.

We are also having to work hard for Terry Flanagan, who was supposed to face Maurice Hooker for the vacant WBO light-welterweight title on the card.

I’m desperate to get a new date for Flanagan, who deserves the chance to become a two-weight world champion.
