90 arrests as morons run wild

-

THE NEXT generation of English hooligans rolled into Amsterdam with the sole intention of enhancing one of the worst traditions in football.

And here, in the stag capital of Europe, we were reminded once again how England’s national football team remains married to a mob of morons.

It was the 12 month anniversary of when supporters ruined the friendly match in Germany with violence and racist songs.

So what better way to celebrate than hopping on a short flight to Holland for more of the same?

When it comes to enhancing reputations, few do it better than those who follow the Three Lions around the world.

On a staple diet of drink and drugs, thousands of the knuckle draggers skulked through the streets, clashing with police and smashing shop windows. The number of arrests was 90 and counting. Thanks to our lot, even officers of the law get stoned here, with riot police finding themselves under attack from a barrage of bricks and bottles, with culture taking a back seat to cretins.

Nothing can excuse it, but part of the FA’s responsibilities include them doing all in their power to reduce the risk of such idiotic behaviour.

With the World Cup a matter of weeks away, the world is watching – and once again it doesn’t like what it sees.

The FA are masters of digging deep holes for themselves and deciding to arrange the last away game before Russia 2018 in Amsterdam on a Friday night is as dopey as it gets.

The decision was nothing more than a green light to those who prefer fighting to football.

As invitations for trouble go, it was the equivalent of asking Sir Alex Ferguson into your wine cellar.

The situation was so farcical even some of our own senior policemen waded into the debate to mock the FA and express genuine astonishment at such inept forward thinking.

Deputy chief constable Mark Roberts, who heads the UK Football Policing Unit said: “Other than playing Scotland in Magaluf or Russia in Marseille, it’s hard to think of a worse place to play the last away friendly before the World Cup.”

People like Roberts have been given the impossible task of attempting to make sure this summer’s Finals are not remembered for what happens off the pitch, instead of what happens on it.

But he must feel like those in
