Tabarrak can defy a penalty

- By Mark Winstanley

IN-FORM William Knight saddled a winner at Kempton on Wednesday, which bodes well for the chances of BALLARD

DOWN (3.35) in the 32Red Lincoln Handicap over the straight mile at Doncaster.

On his most recent outing at Newmarket in July, the five-year-old bolted up in a 13-runner soft-ground handicap when rated 93. Even though he has been raised to a revised mark of 102, he has the scope to improve further.

The booking of Jim Crowley for MIJACK (1.50) in the Listed Unibet Cammidge Trophy means I will be backing the horse each-way at around the 14-1 mark.

Karl Burke’s four-yearold was second in a brace of very competitive handicaps at Ascot over seven furlongs last term and his stamina may prove decisive in this six-furlong contest.

(2.25) in the 32Red Spring Mile Handicap and the four-year-old looks well treated on a mark of 94.

On his latest spin, he was second in heavy ground at Haydock in September when racing off 92 and his trainer is a past master at getting his inmates to progress from three to four.

Newmarket-based Haggas is in flying form as two of his last three runners have won.

TABARRAK (3.00) carries a 3lb penalty in the Listed Unibet Doncaster Mile but Richard Hannon’s consistent sort looks well up to the task.

He was beaten a neck in a Group Three affair at Salisbury in August and he will be hard to beat if repeating that effort.
