Sin if we go down

- by JASON MELLOR

JORDAN SINNOTT thought he had escaped the clutches of non-League football for good.

So it’s no surprise the midfielder insists he has no intention of going back as he bids to help Chesterfield’s ‘Great Escape’ bid. The former Huddersfield ace, 24, spent more than two years in the National League after his release by the Terriers in 2015.

Sinnott, 24, is pushing for a return after a four-month absence due to an ankle ligament injury against near neighbours Notts County tomorrow.

Chesterfield are six points off safety and Sinnott (inset) said: “It has been frustrating watching, especially with our position in the league.

“Initially I didn’t think the injury was going to be as bad as it was. But, in the end, it was just something I had to deal with.

“I’ve had other long-term injuries and that proved to be a blessing in disguise in helping me come to terms with this latest setback.

“I’m back up to speed now and I’ve always had faith in my own ability to be able to affect games at this level.”

Jack Lester’s Chesterfield have won just once in their last seven games and Sinnott added: “It’s still in our hands and we know we’ve just got to dig in now for these last games.

“There are 30 points to play for. And it helps that we have still got to face a few of the sides who are in and around us and we have games in hand over one or two others.”
