Aguero: I’m off in 2 years

- By IAN WHITTELL

SERGIO AGUERO has started the countdown to his Manchester City departure by confirming he will quit in 2020.

The Argentina striker will leave the Premier League to return home when his current contract with the club expires.

Aguero, 29, has become the club’s all-time leading scorer with 199 goals during seven years at City.

But his sights are now set on life after the Etihad and rejoining his boyhood club Independiente.

Aguero (above) said: “My contract with Manchester

City will expire in 2020, then I will return to my home at Independiente.”

The Buenos Aires club signed Aguero as a nine-year-old.

He went on to play three seasons for their first team before joining Atletico Madrid at 18.

While the news will be a blow to City fans, it at least confirms their 2012 title hero will be with them for two more years.

There had been uncertainty about exactly how long he had left on his deal.

Aguero’s agent Hernan Reguera claimed last summer that the South American only had two years left on a deal that was due to expire in 2019.

Etihad boss Pep Guardiola hopes the decision to pull Aguero out of Argentina’s friendly in Spain tonight will see him fit to play at Everton on Saturday.

The striker suffered a knee injury in training and missed City’s 2-0 win against Stoke over a fortnight ago.

City hope remaining in Manchester for treatment will have him available for the Goodison Park clash.
