MORE taxpayers’ cash is being put into the £12million police search for Madeleine McCann.
The Home Office announcement led to fury on social media.
Officials yesterday refused to reveal the figure allocated but it is understood to be around £150,000.
Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry, inset, said they were “incredibly grateful”.
Their daughter disappeared from a holiday apartment in Portugal 11 years ago, aged three. But the extra cash sparked a Twitter backlash.
Coronation Street actor Louis Emerick, 64, who plays Mike Thornberry in the soap, tweeted: “£11m+ spent so far, police granted more funds! Shudnt every missing child be granted the same?”
Celebrity Big Brother and Benefits Street star Dee Kelly said: “Seriously – what’s the difference between #MadelineMcCann and others like @findcorrie #CorrieMcKeague or the hundreds of thousands of others in the country/world #missing.”
Former X Factor champ Steve Brookstein wrote: “Madeleine McCann is never gonna be found. Total waste of public money.”
Another user said: “So they have magic money to further fund Madeleine McCann but they don’t have money for Grenfell victims? Disgusting.”
The further funding comes as the Met Police faces £400m in cutbacks over the next four years.
