Sub earns Buur draw

-

WOLVES got off to a flyer but their promotion charge was held up by resilient Hull.

A place in the Premier League is within touching distance for the season’s front-runners.

And when Diego Jota put them ahead from the spot early in the first half, they looked like really going to town.

But David Meyler took the wind out of their sails with a 38th-minute equaliser – again from a penalty.

And Wolves were to suffer another blow when Ryan Bennett turned in a Kamil Grosicki cross into his own goal after 79 minutes.

But four minutes later, sub Oskar Buur popped up to head home a Barry Douglas cross and salvage a point.

Wolves could have been in front after 90 seconds when the lightning reflexes of Allan McGregor denied them.

The Hull keeper made an acrobatic flying save to tip Romain Saiss’s bullet header over his crossbar.

But in the 18th minute he was given no chance when Michael Hector gave away a penalty with a trip on Jota. Jota got back to his feet to convert the spot-kick, sending the keeper the wrong way.

Wolves were calling the shots and in the 25th minute should have gone further ahead when Saiss sent Jota racing away with a wonderful through ball.

Jota’s first touch was not the best and allowed McGregor the split second he needed to come out and block and when Helder Costa hammered the loose ball goalwards, the keeper managed to sling his body in the way.

That was made to look expensive when Wolves gifted Hull a 37th-minute penalty. Meyler seized on a poor back pass from Helder Costa and was wrestled to the ground by Roderick Miranda.

Meyler smashed the ball into the bottom corner to level it up. Jota threatened again on the hour when met a looping centre from Saiss but his header dropped onto the top of the netting.
