SHAWN Mendes says Ed Sheeran gave him the strength to write about anxiety on his new album.

The last thing you want to do is relive upsetting experiences but that’s the music that travels and connects with people.”

After enjoying No1s across the world, Shawn admits his anxiety took him by surprise.

He opened up on Beats 1: “It was kind of something that hit me within the last year. I knew people who suffered from anxiety and find it kind of hard to understand and then when it hits you, you’re like oh my god, this is crazy.” Sheeran has played young career. a big part in Shawn’s He laughed: “The day I got signed, I said: ‘I just want to be Ed Sheeran’. I think I’m a lot like him in a lot of ways and we hit it off.” Touring with Taylor Swift also helped with onstage nerves. Shawn says: “She goes: ‘Just remember that everyone came here to have fun. This isn’t like The Voice, you know, no-one’s here judging you and rating you out of 10’.”
