She died in terrible agony
A WOMAN died in agonising pain after she was embalmed alive following a major hospital blunder.
Ekaterina Fedyaeva’s furious mum has accused doctors of “murder” after her daughter was placed on the wrong drip.
Medics pumped a formaldehyde solution into her body instead of saline leading the 27-year-old to suffer horrific pain and convulsions for two days before she ended up in a coma.
She was only taken in for routine surgery at the hospital in Ulyanovsk in Russia but ended up being given the drip which is designed to stop the bodies of dead people from decaying. But after waking from her coma at a top Moscow hospital she later died of organ failure.
Her devastated mum Galina Baryshnikova and Ekaterina’s husband Igor said they were shocked to see the state she was in. “Her legs were moving, she had convulsions, her whole body was shaking,” said her mum.
“I put socks on her, then a robe, then a blanket but she was shivering to such an extent, I can’t even describe it. No doctor came to see her although she was coming round from anaesthetic.”
She added: “We had no idea it was formalin. But they knew very well that they washed up her body with a poison – and they did nothing to help.”
Ekaterina was switched to a regional clinic where doctors told Galina and Igor about the terrible blunder.
Medics tried to revive her by using 52 different drugs but she was flown to the Moscow hospital where she later died.
A criminal probe is to be held after Ekaterina was buried on Saturday.
