Big day politics-free zone say royal couple

THERESA May and Donald Trump have not been invited to the royal wedding after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle snubbed all politicians.

The happy couple declared their big day a “politics-free zone” but have invited hundreds of charity workers and community heroes instead.

A royal source revealed the only way political figures will wangle a place on the guest list is if they already have “a personal relationship” with the couple.

Prime Minister Theresa May is not known to be close to the pair. However, former US president Barack Obama has been pals with Harry since 2015.

Suits star Meghan, 36, is also close to Canadian PM Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie through their passion for humanitarian work. It could infuriate Donald Trump if his North American neighbour was invited and he was not.

A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “It has been decided that an official list of political leaders – both UK and international – is not required for Prince Harry and Ms Markle’s wedding.

“Her Majesty’s Government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by The Royal Household.”

Around 600 guests will pack into St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle on May 19.

Among them will be Amelia Thompson, a 12-year-old victim of the Manchester Arena bombing.

The youngster, who had no idea she was nominated by her mother Lisa Newton, was “speechless” when she found out she was invited.

She said: “I could not respond I was so excited. I can’t get my head around it.”

Former Royal Marine Grant White, 52, from Leicester, was invited for his charity work helping ex-service personnel.

Deaf Derby schoolboy Reuben Litherland, 14, who teaches his fellow pupils sign language, is also a guest.

Prince William invited dozens of heads of state and politicians when he wed in 2011.

But there is far less pressure on Prince Harry because he is not a direct heir to the throne.
