Hotter than Greek islands

- By JACK ANDREWS jack.andrews@dailystar.co.uk

SUMMER will start early with sizzling highs of 25C next week, making parts of Britain hotter than Greece.

A tropical blast will bring warm air to end the grey skies and chills.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: “Forecast models show very warm temperatures which could see highs into the mid-20s.”

Britain will be warmer than Kefalonia, Greece, thanks to highs in the 20s.

This weekend London could reach 22C and Newcastle could creep up to 16C.

Met Office forecasters say “dry and sunny weather” is on the cards from Saturday all the way up to St George’s Day on April 23.

Bookmaker Coral now makes it odds on, at 4-6, that 25C or higher is reached anywhere in the UK by the end of April. And forecasts for next month are even better.

More hot spells are now expected to send the mercury soaring to 27C in time for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and the FA Cup Final on Saturday, May 19.

The forecasters also offer a boost to families planning for half-term from May 26 to June 3.

A hot May will be followed by a repeat of June’s 2017 heatwave, said experts at The Weather Company.

Coral is offering 2-1 that this summer goes on to be the hottest in UK history.

Spokesman Harry Aitkenhead said: “Hopes for a blistering summer are sure to rise alongside the thermometers and plenty of punters are backing 2018 to make the record books.”

Last summer hit 34.5C by June 21 – the second hottest June day for 167 years.
