SPANISH police have arrested two party Brits suspected of laundering fake banknotes.

Anthony Whelan, 32, and Stephen Knox, 51, are being held with Irish brothers Andrew Kevin Markey, 33, and Colin Anthony Markey, 36.

Counterfeit 20 and 50 euro notes were flooding the Majorcan resort of Magaluf.

Local police allegedly caught one of the group with dodgy notes.

A huge stash of money was allegedly found in a raid on their apartment including thousands of fakes.

Some of the group were wearing “Marty it’s game over mate” stag T-shirts when arrested.

Police said around 5,000 notes, both euros and pounds, were recovered on Tuesday. A senior officer at the Civil Guard added: “Of that amount 2,000 were definitely counterfeit.

“Now tests are being made on the rest of the notes.”

Spanish authorities confirmed local police took five fake 20 euro notes off one of the suspects along with a small amount of cocaine and cannabis resin.

A Civil Guard spokesman said: “The false euro notes had been brought to Spain by the detainees from the UK so they could be used in the Magaluf area.

“The investigation is ongoing to determine if the fake currency has been used at other sites and further arrests haven’t been ruled out.”
