Over limit on BA jet

A BRITISH Airways hostess was more than 10 times over the alcohol limit allowed for air crews – after getting trollied on vodka miniatures.

Patricia Casey, 51, downed eight shots of the spirit while working aboard a Boeing 787 flight from Singapore.

But after a shocked passenger smelt booze on her breath, the divorced mother of two was arrested at Heathrow Airport when the plane touched down.

At first, she claimed that she had had nothing to eat or drink on the flight.

But later she admitted she had been “very silly” and guzzled miniatures from the drinks trolley.

Blood tests showed she had 201mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood – 10 times over the legal limit for crews of 20mg.

A court heard that the flight attendant had started downing drinks in a bid to battle depression over her bitter divorce from her ex.

Appearing at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court in west London, the sobbing mother from Camberley, Surrey, admitted drinking ® on duty. While pleading for leniency in sentencing, Casey’s solicitor Shan Yaqubc told magistrates: “She is suspended from work, of course, and – following this conviction – she will be permanently losing her job. “She won’t be able to work in the industry where she has worked in the last 21 years. “She has been a flight attendant for over 21 years, she has an unblemished record, she has never had any issues in the past for her behaviour. “She was going through a messy divorce at the time, she has been in a relationship for 18 years, she has had two children with her partner. “She decided to self-medicate and was drinking more than she should have and on this occasion drank at work. “She tells me she is not drinking alcohol now.” Casey was slapped with a fine of £300 and ordered to pay costs of £85 plus a £30 victim surcharge. She admitted performing an aviation function while under the influence of drink.
