MIKE WARD’S SMALL SCREEN
TRUTH OR DARE (15) LOST IN SPACE (12) WE’RE 30 years into the future – and, as is so often the case in sci-fi dramas, Planet Earth is a bit worse for wear.
Time, then, for us humans to set up a new colony, a mission for which the Robinsons, a pretty average US family, are among those selected.
Funnily enough, it’s exactly the same opportunity that was presented to another Robinson family more than half a century ago, in the original 60s TV version of this series.
And they suffered the same grim fate as this lot, their spaceship being thrown way off course, dumping them on a planet that’s unlikely to win tourism awards.
Netflix’s reimagining, with all 10 parts available today, features Toby Stephens and Molly Parker in starring roles, plus roughly a zillion times the budget. BRIGSBY BEAR (15) BRIGSBY is a character from an old kids’ TV show. And even as an adult, James (Kyle Mooney) is an obsessive fan.
But the show turns out to be a fake, the creation of a freaky couple (Mark Hamill and Jane Adams) who have held this guy captive since he was a baby.
When James is set free, he is stunned to discover he’s the only person to ever watch it. Then he sets out to make a Brigsby film of his own. SUICIDE SQUAD: HELL TO PAY (15) DC Universe’s ragtag bunch of cartoon mega-crims, known as Task Force X – that’s Deadshot (voiced by Christian Slater), Harley Quinn, Bronze Tiger, Copperhead and Killer Frost – are sent off on another life-or-death mission.
Their task is to retrieve a mystical playing card, no less, that grants its holder frankly ludicrous powers. ACCIDENT MAN (15) Looking for someone to carry out a hit for you?
Mike Fallon (Scott Adkins) offers a very neat service, cleverly making every kill look accidental.
Fallon’s not your sentimental type, as you’ll have no doubt twigged, but he did have quite a soft spot for his ex.
Hence her murder, by one of his own crew, has put him in a lousy – and vengeful – mood.
