KEEP CALM WARNS ROY
Eagles not out for any drama
ROY HODGSON has told his Crystal Palace players to keep cool and not get swept away by the emotion against long-term rivals Brighton.
Both sides are still in danger, with Palace just one spot and three points above the relegation zone.
A win tomorrow for Brighton at Selhurst Park would all but seal their survival, but anything less will leave the Sussex side anxiously looking over their shoulders.
The Eagles have not come out on top in two previous meetings at the Amex Stadium this season – drawing 0-0 in the league in November and losing 2-1 in the FA Cup in January.
Boss Hodgson said: “It does give it an extra edge, because it’s Brighton.
“But we must not allow our hearts to rule our heads, make mistakes through too much emotion, leading to a player being booked or sent off.
Ready
“The players are experienced enough to realise they have to win this game and have to win it playing football, not by intimidating our opponents.
“Our opponents are too good and experienced to be intimidated. They are a team who know exactly what they’re doing and do it extremely well. They are a hard-working team.
“The derby factor is important for both sets of supporters, so it’s going to be a big occasion, but I believe we are ready for it.
“We’re going to be very anxious and there’s no doubt the anxiety will find its way from the crowd out on to the field.
“All I can hope is that the players show their experience and stand up to it.”
Palace are set to welcome back fit-again striker Christian Benteke (groin) but Hodgson could stick with wingers Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend as an unorthodox front two.
Hodgson added: “It’s a nice problem to have.”
