TO RESCUE

Gunners enjoy mad night in Moscow

-

Kuchaev cross from the left and although Cech saved, Fedor Chalov reacted first to poke in.

Out of nowhere, suddenly the party seemed to have a bit of edge to it and the gloves were off.

Bistrovic fired a 20-yard shot inches over the bar and somehow Arsenal held on for a frantic six minutes until the break.

But Wenger’s men were sitting too deep in the early minutes of the second half, with Mohamed Elneny dropping further back – and they soon shot themselves in the foot.

Time

Golovin was given time to strike from range, Cech failed to hold and this time it was Nababkin finishing off the rebound.

Cech was at full stretch again in the 53rd minute, this time turning Golovin’s free-kick around the post. It was nervy stuff.

That sense could have been eased if Elneny had not strayed offside before heading in after 57 minutes.

But at least it was a reminder to Arsenal that an aging defensive unit were there for the taking with a bit of pace and composure. Instead, hearts were again in mouths when Musa tumbled in search of a penalty.

Wenger took off Jack Wilshere in a tactical switch that allowed Elneny to get forward again.

And the move paid off as the midfielder fed a pass through for Welbeck to slot in an away goal that finally killed off the tie – before Ramsey had the very last word.
