DAWN French has hinted that her TV comedy days are coming to en end.

The star of hit sitcoms The Vicar Of Dibley and Delicious claims she prefers to stay out of the limelight these days and write books.

Dawn, 60, said: “I do very little in front of the camera these days. I’ve got no desire to do jazz hands any more.

“I wouldn’t be sad at all if I never acted again.

“In fact, when I get a script, my first thought is ‘Oh, I hope this is no good, because it’ll make it easier to say no’.”

Dawn, left, and comedy sidekick Jennifer Saunders made a TV special last year to mark their 30th anniversary.

But fans will be disappointed to hear this might have been the last time they do a project together. She admitted: “There are no immediate plans for more because we are booked up into next year.”

Since appearing in her hit comedy shows, Dawn has carved out a successful career as a writer.

She has penned bestselling books Dear Fatty, According To Yes, A Tony Bit Marvellous and Me And You.

The comedian explained: “I get so much pleasure from my writing. Shows take two years to develop, so I always have a full diary in advance. Showbusiness is very fickle. It could end at any minute.”

One TV project Dawn was happy to agree to was a second series of kids’ talent show Little Big Shots, which currently airs on ITV on Sundays.

She said: “We are not promising that these kids are going to be big stars. It’s old-fashioned family viewing.”
