Truth behind Verne's death
VERNE TROYER,1969-2018 PAL MYERS’ TRIBUTE
AUSTIN Powers actor Mike Myers led moving tributes to his tragic Mini-Me co-star Verne Troyer.
The 2ft 8in screen legend died on Saturday, aged 49, after a long battle with drink and depression.
Mike said: “Verne was a consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honour of working with him.
“It’s a sad place, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed.”
Verne hit the big time with his role in the second Austin Powers flick The Spy Who Shagged Me.
He reprised the role of Mini-Me – Dr Evil’s miniature clone – in the final film of the trilogy, Goldmember.
Verne also appeared in Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone as well as the sixth series of Britain’s Celebrity Big Brother in 2009. It emerged he was admitted to hospital earlier this month after an incident at his home and was placed on “involuntary psychiatric hold”.
He had previously entered rehab for alcoholism. A statement on his Instagram page hinted at the demons he was battling weeks before his death.
It read: “Asking you to keep Verne in your thoughts and prayers.
“He’s getting the best care possible and is resting comfortably. “Appreciate the support from family, friends and fans around the world.”
His representatives said: “Verne was a fighter when it came to his own battles.
“Over the years he’s struggled and won, struggled and won, but unfortunately this time was too much.
“Depression and suicide are very serious issues.
“You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside.”
Pal Warwick Davis also paid tribute, saying: “So sad to hear that my friend @VerneTroyer has passed away.
“We shared a mutual respect for each other’s work and I always admired his good humour and lovely nature in the face of adversity.
“Now, for the first time, he’ll be looking down on us all, and laughing!”
