CHOP ‘RACIST’ ROLE SAYS CARTOON STAR
THE actor who voices Apu in The Simpsons wants the “racist” character culled.
Hank Azaria said the KwikE-Mart owner is too controversial after complaints about a white actor putting on an accent.
Speaking on The Late Show in America, he said: “I’ve given this a lot of thought.
“My eyes have been opened.
“The most important thing is to listen to Indian people and their experience with it.
“I’m perfectly willing and happy to step aside, or help transition it into something new. It not only makes sense, it just feels like the right thing to do to me.”
But Azaria sparked a backlash with fans on social media. One said: “Get a life! You don’t hear the Scottish getting all upset with Groundskeeper Willie.
“We don’t all have ginger hair and run around in kilts. It’s a cartoon, get over yourself.”
Another said: “Am I the only one who thinks that the whole Apu controversy is kind of ridiculous?
“To me, I don’t see Apu as racist. In fact, I find him inspiring.
“He is more than just an Indian stereotype.”
Melania, then Melanija Knavs, was born in Novo Mesto in Slovenia in 1970. At that time it was part of Yugoslavia.
Her dad Viktor managed a car dealership and her mum Amalija was a pattern-maker for a children’s clothing manufacturer.
She has an older sister Ines and an older half-brother Denis, who she has never met, from her dad’s previous relationship.
She famously posed naked in 2000 for British GQ on a fur rug sporting handcuffs.
After modelling since she was five, she signed with an agency at the age of 18, working for fashion houses in Paris and Milan.
Melania studied architecture and design at the University of Ljubljana in the Slovenian capital for a year before dropping out.
She moved to New York in 1996 and landed big modelling jobs but she was not a party girl, preferring to watch films alone or go to the gym.
But she met Donald two years later at a New York nightclub, although he was on a date with another woman!
He asked for her number, she declined
as he was with someone else but he refused to take no for an answer.
They pair wed in 2005. They have one child together called Barron, who is also fluent in Slovenian, and she is stepmum to Trump’s four other children.
As well as her native language, Melania speaks English, French and Italian fluently as well as some SerboCroatian and German.
Her Secret Service code name is Muse as it has to begin with the same letter as her husband’s alias, Mogul. Other First Ladies have gone by Renaissance (Michelle Obama), Tempo (Laura Bush) and Evergreen (Hillary Clinton).
Melania had a cameo in Ben Stiller’s Zoolander film but didn’t get to say a line.
She is the first President’s wife born in a communist country, and the first immigrant First Lady since 1825.
Melania’s 5ft 11ins makes her one of the tallest First Ladies.
Her first solo foreign trip as First Lady was to Toronto for the Invictus Games where she met Prince Harry.
Melania has her own jewellery line sold on QVC and caviar-based skincare range.
She is said to be worth a cool £35.6million.
