NINTENDO LABO REVIEW from £59.99
IT might be made out of cardboard but Nintendo’s next paperthemed innovation is nothing less than utterly brilliant.
Nintendo Labo goes on sale tomorrow and, like a lump of Ikea furniture, offers gamers the chance to build up what they’ve just bought.
Labo arrives in two options with a Variety Kit (£59.99) and Robot Kit (£69.99) both available at launch.
We’ve been playing with the cheaper Variety Kit which comes flat-packed with five clever creations to construct.
There’s a remote controlled robot, fully playable piano, an interactive house, fun fishing rod and even a motorbike complete with a working throttle and brake.
Once slotted together, the kits interact with the Nintendo Switch console – instantly bringing the boring brown cardboard to life.
For example, the remote controlled car uses the tiny vibrations from Nintendo’s Joy-Cons to power it along and the piano senses when keys have been pressed with the Switch then making the sound. We’ve been building these creations all week and it’s a colossal amount of fun, although you’ll need plenty of time and a whole lot of patience.
The Piano takes about three hours to fold, snap and clip together and that’s before you’ve even begun customising what you’ve built. In many ways this is the joy of Labo as we think this cardboard innovation will offer months of playtime.
That’s not bad for a toy that costs under £60 – as long as you have a Switch, of course.
Nintendo has created a truly ingenious idea that’s guaranteed to bring hours of fun.
